Dr. Paymon Rahgozar, is a Los Angeles native who is triple board certified in the specialties of Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Hand Surgery.
He attended University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated summa cum laude with honors with a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics and a Minor in Spanish. He received his Doctorate in Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. He then began ten years of surgical training beginning at UCLA where he completed a full training in General Surgery. He spent a dedicated year of research investigating the immunogenicity of scaffolds for surgical implantation. He subsequently underwent Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training at University of Southern California where he received a broad training in reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery, microsurgery, and hand surgery. Dr. Rahgozar further pursued an additional year of fellowship training dedicated to hand surgery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Dr. Rahgozar then joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). At UCSF he worked primarily at San Francisco General Hospital as well as at Oakland Children’s Hospital treating and caring for patients in need of reconstruction whether due to traumatic injury, cancer, or congenital differences. He also spent endless hours teaching and guiding the future generation of surgeons working with the medical students and surgical residents at UCSF.
Dr. Rahgozar’s areas of expertise include treatment of common and complex problems of the hand and wrist. His expertise also extends to the treatment of congenital problems in pediatric patients; complex surgical reconstruction/microsurgery of defects of the head and neck, breasts, chest, abdomen, and extremities; and aesthetic surgery of the face, nose, eyelids, breasts, abdomen, and extremities.
Dr. Rahgozar has authored over 30 publications contributing research and techniques to the top international Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery journals and textbooks. He was awarded the Linscheid-Dobyns Excellence in Wrist Research award by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand for his study on advanced wrist arthritis. He has given over 50 lectures and poster presentations including international lectures on limb salvage and reconstruction to surgeons all over the world.
Dr. Rahgozar’s diverse training and background makes him the ideal surgeon to provide his patients with the most comprehensive and state of the art care to achieve the best outcomes. He is trilingual in Farsi and Spanish. In his free time Dr. Rahgozar enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors with his family.
