Dr. Peter Pyrko

Dr. Peter Pyrko is a board certified, arthroplasty-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in surgical and non-surgical treatment of various conditions of hip and knee joint. Dr. Pyrko performs partial knee replacements, total knee replacements, total hip replacements as well as revisions of partial knee, total knee and total hip replacements.

In addition to his orthopedic education Dr. Pyrko took time to receive extensive training specifically in adult reconstruction of the hip and knee. His particular interest is in minimally invasive procedures, whenever possible, in particular total hip replacement through anterior approach aiming to get patients to their pre-disease mobility with minimal recovery time, less pain and short hospital stay.

For 10 years now Dr. Pyrko has been treating active, often young patients: a UFC fighter, a yoga teacher, surfers who were unfortunate to develop severe arthritis and could no longer manage without surgery. Dr. Pyrko learned and developed surgical techniques that allow for bilateral procedures whenever it is appropriate in a healthy patient with severe disease of both joints.

Dr. Pyrko contributed multiple journal articles in orthopedic literature and wrote reviews and book chapters in prestigious publications including a chapter on anterior approach to the hip in second edition of “The Hip” and a chapter on use of robotic navigation in “Surgery of the Knee”, both publications being staples of knowledge in adult reconstruction literature.

Dr. Pyrko received his medical degree and doctoral degree on a full scholarship from Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California and his orthopedic training at the iconic NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases (Now Langone Orthopedic Hospital) in New York. He then continued his training at one of the most prestigious fellowships in adult reconstruction – Rothman Institute affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Research shows that patients receiving a joint replacement by an arthroplasty-trained surgeon, who maintains high volume of replacement cases, have fewer complications and better experience with these complex procedures. Dr. Pyrko would like to employ his extensive training and years of experience to help his future patients get through hip and knee surgeries smoothly and return to the joy of walking pain free again.
