Dr. Francis Bustos is an orthopedic surgeon at the LA Bone and Joint Institute, specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopy, and reconstructive surgery. His expertise includes minimally invasive (arthroscopic) procedures for the shoulder, knee, hip, and ankle, as well as total joint replacements of the shoulder, hip, and knee. He also treats general orthopedic trauma, such as dislocations and fractures.
Dr. Bustos is particularly skilled in shoulder arthroscopy, performing procedures like rotator cuff repairs, instability surgeries, and complex reconstructions. He also manages knee injuries, including ACL and other ligament repairs, meniscus surgeries, and cartilage restoration, utilizing minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. His practice also includes hip arthroscopy for conditions like femoroacetabular impingement and labral tears, and ankle arthroscopy for cartilage restoration, instability, and impingement.
Dr. Bustos earned his Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology and Physiology from the University of Maryland and his Doctor of Medicine from Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia, where he served as the team physician for Fork Union Military Academy.
He continued his training with a fellowship in arthroscopy and reconstructive surgery at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) in Los Angeles. During his fellowship, he cared for athletes at all levels and served as a team physician for several high school teams. Dr. Bustos has contributed to the advancement of sports orthopedic surgery through numerous scientific publications. He is an active member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES).
Outside of medicine, Dr. Bustos enjoys traveling with his family, cooking, and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which he has trained in for over a decade.
